One ounce Elephant Big Five gold coin from the South African Rand Refinery.

The Rand Mint has a history of producing beautiful coins themed on the wildlife of Africa with this series depecting the ‘big five’ animals which hunters considered the most prestigious targets – the Lion, Rhino, Elephant, Leopard and Buffalo.

This year the coin features the African elephant, the obverse presents a beautiful elephant coming towards us, with a large detailed trunk and tusks. Beneath this is the text ‘SOUTH AFRICA – BIG FIVE 2022” and the South African coat of Arms. On the reverse is an even more interesting image showing a close-up of two elephants faces with a central circle giving the value, weight and purity (999.9).
